Collection consists of letters from painters, mostly arranging admission into the galleries for themselves or friends. Letters from Charles West Cope concern the voting for a professor of chemistry, a trip to Ireland and other matters; a letter from Henry Tanworth Wells, asks that he be admitted to re-oil his portrait of W.E. Forster prior to its shipment to the U.S.; a letter from John Callcott Horsley (July 9 1871) on Royal Academy matters; a 3 p. letter dated 1880 from William Carpenter contains a long description of Pau, France and a pencil sketch of the castle. With a short note from the engraver Richard James Lane.
